Rules
- I don't really hate any genre. What do I do?
The most common question we've heard is: "I don't really hate any genre, what do I do?". In that case, please pick a convention or subgenre within a genre that you dislike and tackle that. The idea is to challenge something you either don't fully understand or that you dislike enough to want to change it. As the website says, through utter ignorance for conventions and hate for the established rules of a genre, beautiful things will happen.
- Can I work in teams?
Yes. If you haven't found a team, join our
IRC-chat
as it gets fuller.
- Can I start designing my game before the jam starts?
Yes. All we care about is that you tackle a genre you'd normally avoid.
- Am I required to jam all days?
No, you can participate for just two days or seven days. You can even participate for an hour (like 0hjam) or for two months. It's just that we'll organize things for the week of November 9th, only.
- How can I join the IRC chat?
If you have no IRC client (or have no experience with IRC), we're offering
a web-based chat.
For those that do use IRC, the channel is #fuckthisjam on irc.esper.net.
- The website says November 9th, 18:00. What timezone?
We start at November 9th 18:00 in your own, local, timezone.
- How will uploading the games work in Fuck This Jam?
We've been working closely with Brett Chalupa on setting up the
Beautiful Mess Organizer
, or B.M.O., which will be the front-end for the jam. B.M.O. will go live two days before the jam starts, so you'll be notified if the system is live for final signup. From B.M.O. you'll be able to do everything you expect from jam: find a team, submit your progress, check out other jammers' work and chat with other jammers over the IRC channel.
If you've used B.M.O. before in the
Fantastic Arcade Adventure Time Jam
and have feedback for the system, please feel free to get in touch with us!
- Will there be licenses for tools like in other jams?
Game Maker Studio
and
Unity
have promised we'll have temporary licenses for their software during the jam. If there is software you'd like us to try and find licenses for, let us know - we can't promise anything, but we sure can try.
- Will there be local meetups? Can I organize one?
Yes! We're working on establishing some meetups and jam spots for people to get together during part of jam (or even the whole week). If you want to help organizing a local meetup for one or multiple days of the jam,
please sign up here
and we'll help you set up and get everything ready for the jam. There's not much to it, though - you take care of a place and a way to reach you for others, we'll send you some videos to play and some information.
- My question isn't answered here!
